Ruth Register Long

Ruth Register Long, age 89, of New Bern, North Carolina went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 29, 2023. She was born and raised in the Tuscarora area of Craven County to the late, Odell and Effie Register.

She was an excellent seamstress, sewing for her daughters and granddaughters. She often accompanied her husband, Bill, while he drove for Holiday Tours all across the East Coast. As a woman of faith, she and Bill were involved in their churches, both in Greensboro at Proximity United Methodist Church and later, in New Bern at Trinity United Methodist Church.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Long; sons, Thomas Lee Register and Travis Lee "Butch" Register, Jr.; sisters, Frances Conner and Doris Brinkley; as well as a brother, Marvin Register.

She is survived by her daughters, Janie Register Hardison (Garvin) of Minnesott Beach and Kim Register Jones (Glenn) of New Bern; daughter-in-law, Debbie Register (Ken Fredricks); sister, Joyce Ann Neal; sister-in-law, Fredda Register Tyndall; grandchildren, Linnie Fulcher (Crystal), Joey Register (Ashley), John Register (Shannon), Kevyn Fulcher (Kimberly), Amanda Hardison Armstrong (Peyton), Meredith Hardison, Kari Jane Hardison Smith (Will), William Mooney (Jessica), and Brie Jones; as well as twelve great grandchildren, four great, great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Cotten Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Greenleaf Memorial Park. The family will receive friends following the cemetery portion of the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in her name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
