Richard Alfred Hintz, known to many as Rich or Dick, passed away on March 5, 2025, in New Bern, North Carolina. He was born on June 12, 1942, in Bay City, Michigan.
A proud veteran, Richard honorably served in the United States Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He bravely fought in Vietnam, where he earned a Purple Heart, a Presidential Unit Citation, and numerous other commendations for his service.
Rich will always be remembered as a hardworking and tough individual with a deep love for the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, working on old cars, collecting firearms, deer hunting, and playing his lotto scratch-offs. He could often be found outside with a black coffee in hand, ready to share his knowledge of cars with family and friends. His simple joys included Whoppers candy, trail mix, fajitas, and a good hamburger steak!
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Julia Hintz; his siblings, Paul, Jeanette, Alfred, and Thomas; and his beloved wife of 57 years, Cecelia Hintz.
Though Rich is no longer physically with us, his memory lives on through his loved ones. He leaves behind his siblings, Patricia Bouckaert, Gerri (Hintz) Matthews, and Dan Hintz. His remembrance and stories will be passed on through his four children, Robin Kreta (Dennis), Rita Battistoni (Mike), Rick Dudek, and Renee Giddings (Jack) along with his grandchildren Ryan (Marinna), Courtney (Dan), Katy (Corey), Cameron, Megan, Shane (Allie), Jamie, Jillian and seven great-grandchildren.
May he rest in peace, knowing he was loved and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and neighbors.
Rest easy, Marine. We have the watch.
No services will be held.
