Rae joined that Great Cloud of Witnesses on Dec 30, 2021. She was born on Aug 17, 1934 to Ralph and Alma Morillo in rural Charleston, SC. Rae married Navy serviceman Albert Cowan in 1955 and they moved to his hometown of Rochester, NY. There she was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and homemaker for many years to Al and her much loved children Beth and Ralph. She opened her heart and house to all who needed a place to call home. Rae enjoyed singing, sewing and serving, all with her southern charm.
Retirement brought them back to the Carolina’s where Rae’s greatest joy was serving the Lord through her many different venues at Christ Church over the course of her 34 years in New Bern. She especially enjoyed the choir and her active ministry in the Silver Shepherds. She loved angels.
Rae is predeceased by her husband of 56 years, her brother Marvin Morillo and her brother-in-law Dick Hord. Continuing on their journey without her are her daughter Elizabeth Rae and son-in-law David Smith and her son Ralph Cowan, both of New Bern and her “adopted daughter” Kathleen (Don) McPherson of Saratoga NY. Also missing her loving presence in their lives will be her grandchildren: Matt (Cait) Gursslin, Holly (Cody) Gursslin Beseda, Julia Rae (Ken) Carpenter, Stacey (Dave) Frank, Candy (JR) Good, Jesse (Fawn) Smith, Kara (Graham) Johns and great grandchildren: Bekah, Max, Zoey, Casey, Brent, Amanda, David, Zach, Faith, Courtney, Bailey, Colton, Kaycia, Kaya, Graham and Zoe. She also leaves her sister Lynda Hord and her sister-in-law Carolyn Morillo, 4 nephews and her niece and Goddaughter Jennifer.
All of us consider ourselves blessed by her love and involvement in our lives. Rae smiled and shared her heart easily and touched innumerable lives in her 87 years. She leaves behind many wonderful friends including her life long friend Gladys. We can hear her sweet voice in our minds and feel her touch in our hearts just by remembering her. Thank you for your legacy of love Momma Rae!
Cotten Funeral Home is honored to serve the family and friends of Rae Louise Cowan.
