Peggy was raised in Martin County, NC and graduated from Oak City High School. After graduating, she moved to New Bern in 1953 to work for the Carolina Telephone Co. Early in 1954, she met the love of her life, Albert Brinson, Jr., on a blind date They were married on May 13th 1956. After marrying, she worked briefly for First Citizens Bank before starting a family. She was fortunate to be at home with her children and loved being able to be part of their lives and daily activities, always available for another carpool. She helped Albert to open Brinson Sound & Communications, which they ran for many years.
Peggy joined Trinity United Methodist in 1961 and was a faithful member until her death. She was involved in many aspects of the church, including serving as Treasurer and President of the United Methodist Women for several years. She also served on the Board of Trustees, and later was a member of the Bereavement Committee for many years.
First and foremost, she was a loving and devoted wife of 66 years. She and Albert loved to travel with family and friends on cruises as well as trips to Florida. Later in their lives they spent winters there with their motor home and their Sudan Camping Club friends. She was a long-time New Bern Shrinette member and member of the Eastern Star for 25 years. She and Albert loved gathering with family and friends at their place on Broad Creek for a wonderful day of sun, fun, and a fish fry with the New Bern Fire Department or family reunion. They also enjoyed spending time at their getaway at Atlantic Beach.
The time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was some of the happiest of her life. It brought her immense joy to be a part of their lives, share in their accomplishments, and receive their hugs, kisses, and giggles. Her behind-the-scenes acts of service, whether cooking special foods or caring for everyone in everyday ways, will forever leave an indelible mark on our hearts.
The love she shared with her husband was like no other and has been such an inspiration and testament to the life they have shared for 66 years. Their love never wavered and only in death did they part. For her life with us, we are forever grateful.
