Paul William Knortz, 76, of New Bern, passed away on the evening of Wednesday, October 5, 2016. A veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, Paul served on ice breaking missions in the artic and was stationed in the Pacific at Johnston's Atoll. He worked with General Electric for 25 years as a medical systems technician, serving hospitals in eastern North Carolina and northern Virginia. In his spare time, Paul enjoyed fishing, boating and spending time with family and friends.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 15th in the Chapel at St. Paul Catholic Church. He will be laid to rest following the service in St. Joseph Cemetery.
A native of Brooklyn, New York, Paul was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Maryanne Guyre Knortz and is survived by three children, Karen Knortz Louya, John P. Knortz, and James A. Knortz and wife, Tracy; one brother, John T. Knortz; and seven grandchildren, Joey Corcoran, Evan Louya, Caitlin Knortz, Courtney Knortz, Jacob Knortz, Gabrielle Knortz, and Gavin Knortz.
