Matthew Alton Trapnell, 41, of Durham, passed away on May 20th, 2021 from his lifelong battle with addiction. He was born on May 15th, 1980 to parents, Byron Alton Trapnell and Cathy White Trapnell. Matthew was a very special, loving father, son and brother. He had a passion for BMX, mountain biking and downhill riding.
He attended the Barnett Bicycle Institute in Colorado Springs where he successfully completed their program and became a talented bicycle mechanic. Recently, he worked for REI, a company which he loved working for and they took good care of him.
He is survived by his loving mother, Cathy White Trapnell; brothers, Michael Allen Magarelli and Alexander Michael Trapnell; sons, Adler Matthew Trapnell and Reid Zackary Trapnell; stepson, Preston Adams; and his significant other, Shelly Leyner.
He is preceded in death by his father, Byron Matthew Trapnell; maternal grandparents, Allen and Joan White; and paternal grandparents, Alton and Anna Trapnell.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 5th at Freedom Fellowship Church in Kinston, NC.
