We were so sad and shocked to hear of Allen's death. He was a very talented man and very kind. The first time that I met Allen was when he worked at The Pottery in New Bern. My oldest son had passed away in 2005 and I went to The Pottery to have Christmas Flowers made for my son's gravesite and I was very fortunate to have Allen make a Beautiful Flower Arrangement and he was so nice and kind during my difficult time having to have this done. From that moment on, from being so kind and caring and his Beautiful Flower Arrangements....I knew that I wanted Allen to always make my flower arrangements for my son's gravesites. After Christmas Arrangements, I would have Allen make Spring and Fall Arrangements. The arrangements were put together so well that I was able to save then for a few years and reuse them.
Then in 2010, my youngest son passed away, I went to Allen again for Beautiful Flowers Arrangements. I wanted to make sure that I had two flower arrangements alike for my sons. Allen always made sure that they were beautiful and done with a lot of care and love. After the Pottery went out of business, Allen went to Michaels, I continued to look for him to make my flower arrangements in New Bern and also in Morehead City. Michaels closed their flower arrangements service. 
A few years ago...I was able to locate Allen again and he kindly started making my beautiful flower arrangements again.


Rest in peace Allen and know you will be missed and we appreciated all of your kindness and caring.

I read with great shock & sorrow the death of Allen this morning.  We were friends.  Not bosom buddies   friends, in fact the only time we saw each other was if we were working in the same show, or at Michaels when he was making the flower arrangements for the store, but it was like old home week when we did meet.  He was a talented actor & a fantastic set designer.  But he was also a gentle soul, a friendly person & kind to all.  I never heard him say a negative comment about anyone.  He was quick with a smile & hug. 
I've known Allen since 1981 & you can be sure he will be missed by all who knew him or knew his work.  Rest in peace my friend.

One of the kindest, funniest person I have ever had the pleasure to work with. I will always remeber his smile and his little song he would some times do. New Bern has loss a good soul. Miss you Allen, tell your God kitties hello from me.

Allen will always have a special place in my heart.  His welcoming loving smile and heart felt hugs always made me feel special.  His love for life flowed out to all that knew him.  Rest peacefully my friend and know you are always loved.

Allen became my friend from day one when we met at Harris Teeter... What a wonderful person he was! So many great stories he'd share with us at the floral department...
He was full of knowledge and had so many talents,I learned a lot from him.
 He was a friend,a teacher,an inspiration,a mentor to all of us,lucky people who had the HONOR to ever meet this beautiful soul.
My friend had an amazing sense of humor,he was very funny. We laughed every time we worked together.

I worked with Allen / Alan at Harris Teeter the last 2 years. I always enjoyed our conversations and his humor, and was sorry that our paths didn't cross more. It was hard to see him struggling for the past year or more trying to work with the VA to get his oxygen under control. It frustrated him, as did the registers at the store as he worked at ringing up customers. Some days you thought he'd punch his finger right through the screen trying to hit the right button and get it to do what he wanted it to. Hopefully now he's back working with his flowers and doing theatre, not ringing up bananas.
