Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, October 25th at Cotten Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
He was very proud to have served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1966 with the 64th Engineer Batallion and retired as Master Sergeant. Following his retirement from the military he pursued a career with the N.C.D.O.T., serving as the Location Engineer of Division II in New Bern, NC.
Leo was married to the late Hazel Johnson who passed away on April 21, 1997.
He is survived by one son, Donald Johnson (Marsha); three daughters, Sandra Jesse (Richard), Vicky Johnson, and Kathy Taylor (Tom); seven grandchildren, Matthew and Michelle Jesse, Stephanie, Aric, and Margie Wallace, Jonathan Hardy, and Mei Mei Taylor; and five great grandchildren, Jessica Hand, Jacob Rosado, Michael Jesse, Katelyn and Jeremiah Wallace.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his memory to the Craven County Senior Center to benefit Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 12039, New Bern, NC 28561 (Leo Johnson Memorial).
