We are devastated to announce the passing of Kristine “Krissy” Farnharm Hunt of Aurora, NC, originally from Swanton, Ohio. Kristine went to dance with abandon on the streets of heaven on February 28th, 2025. She was defined by sharing a deep love for her family and friends, and especially, her love and joy she found in her faith in God. She was an overcomer, kind hearted, and a sweet soul. She made friends wherever she went and loved to help people. Kristine just had a way to brighten one’s day and calm others down.
Kristine shared 25 years with husband Bobby, was mother to three sons, Jason, James, and Josh. She found bonus daughters and friends in her daughters-in-law, Madeline and Jessica. She had three beautiful grandchildren, who were the beat of her heart, Joy, Jensen and Charlie.
Being a Nana was her favorite part of her life. Her grandchildren meant the world to her and her fierce hugs will be missed. She loved celebrating the holidays and especially birthdays. She was a generous gift-giver and would go all out, planning for months. She loved to give highly personalized gifts and amazing ornaments at Christmas time. She enjoyed sharing her talents in everything that she did and she did it passionately.
Kristine loved talking on the phone and always had a listening ear, giving the best advice. She liked helping others and had friends literally all over the world. As a foreign exchange student host family when son James was in high school, she kept up with the students on Facebook. She made friends everywhere she went and still kept in touch with family and friends back in Ohio. Kristine graduated from Mcauley High School in 1985 and maintained her friendships to the day she died. Friends meant so much to her.
Kristine had a thirst for knowledge and modeled the wonder of knowing. She was attending Beaufort County Community College in the nursing program, deciding that she would become a nurse later in life, in the pursuit of fulfilling one of her dreams. She held a GPA of 3.89 and was an avid learner. She won a scholarship just a few days before she passed. She had suffered with diabetes for many years and was a double amputee. Her experiences made her want to help others with diabetes and disabilities, as she had a huge heart for people and an intense understanding for suffering. Son James said she would have been "Heals on Wheels." Anyone that knew her could say that name fit well.
Kris loved music, poetry, and singing loud to the radio. She was a gifted artist and became an illustrator of children’s books. Her latest work is currently being published. Kristine was very proud and excited to one day read it to her grandchildren.
With her indomitable positive attitude, sheer muck power, and unwavering stubbornness, she handled the hard stuff well. She didn’t let losing her legs stop her from living, and if anything, it made her fight harder to keep going. She especially enjoyed swimming at the YMCA and had made many friends there. She was an inspiration to many.
Kristine lived her life the best she knew and left this earth wishing that her children and grandchildren would find safety in this mixed-up world. While our hearts mourn the loss, we take comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering. There is no more pain and she is dancing again!
Kristine is survived by husband Bobby, son Jason (Jessica), son James (Madeline), son Josh, her three grandchildren, Joy, Jensen, and Charlie with baby sister on the way, and her mother Kathy. She was preceded in death by her father James.
A celebration of life will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church in New Bern, March 7th at 11:00am in the chapel.
As Kristine prioritized finding joy in life and sharing it with others, the family asks that you do the same - go out and do something that brings you real joy and share it with those around you. And remember, if it pains you, "just let it go!"
