He was born on May 25, 1948, in New Bern, NC to the late John Anderson and Louise Haddock. Along with his parents, Johnnie was predeceased by his sisters, Judy Roberts and Angeline Hill. Left to cherish Johnnie's memory is his wife, Helen Hill Anderson, to whom he was married for 55 years, as well as his son, Johnnie William "JJ" Anderson, Jr., his grandchildren, Ashley Anderson and Amber Anderson, and his great granddaughter, Aubrey, along with his brother, Carl Anderson, his sister, Vicki Fedorka, and his sister-in-law, Bobbie Hill Lockey and her husband, Van.
Johnnie proudly served our country in the United States Army for three years and was with the Army Corps of Engineers for 13 months during the Vietnam conflict. Following his honorable discharge, Johnnie worked for 20 years in the logging business as foreman with Gerald Anderson Logging. Because of his love for horses, Johnnie went to school to become a farrier and practiced that trade for 23 years in Craven and surrounding counties where he was well known for his expert craftmanship. Described as the rock of his beloved family, Johnnie was one of a kind. He never met a stranger, and he loved helping people.
A celebration of Johnnie's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 23, at Cotten Funeral Home, 2201 Neuse Boulevard, New Bern, NC, and the family will receive friends there after the service.
Cotten Funeral Home is honored to serve the family and friends of Johnnie William Anderson.
