John Roger Simpson Jr.

John Roger Simpson Jr., 72, of New Bern, North Carolina passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 9, 2025. John was born in Broadstairs, England on April 29, 1952 to John Roger Simpson and Cynthia Ellen Simpson.

John was a graduate of Western Carolina University and loved his time there as a member of the TKE’s. After graduation, he joined the U.S.Navy and was able to travel the world, often sending keepsakes to his nieces. Upon his retirement, he worked for the Newport News Shipyard, and enjoyed his time at home with his partner, Judy. John was an avid pheasant hunter, often taking trips to South Dakota to hunt with his dad and their beloved Brittany Spaniels.

Thankful for his life and continuing in his memory are his sisters Barbara Carter and her husband Randy of New Bern and Joyce Deloach of Mooresville, NC, and his two nieces, Cynthia Davis and her husband Mathew of Virginia Beach, VA and Jennifer Powell Maier of New Bern, NC. He’s also survived by his three great nephews and one niece.

He is predeceased by his parents, Jack and Ellen Simpson of New Bern, and his partner of 35 years, Judy Martin of Yorktown, VA.

The family would like to thank Craven County Hospice for their care of John during this time. Because of them, his family was able to honor his wishes and let him stay in his home.

A Lakeside Chapel Service will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, 2:00 pm at Greenleaf Memorial Park Cemetery, 900 River Rd., New Bern, NC 28560.
