He is survived by his daughter, Neldina Maynard (Bill Maynard) of Weddington, NC; son, John Hodges, Jr. (Janet Hodges), of New Bern; daughter, Daretha Hodges of Kings Mountain, NC., and grandsons Jason Maynard and Daniel Maynard. Pete also had many Dixon and Hodges relatives in Chocowinity and Little Washington.
Born in Chocowinity, NC, to James William (Bill) Hodges and Fannie Pearl Dixon Hodges, Pete grew up in Pamlico County where he owned P & F Cabinets, building custom cabinetry for many of the historical homes in New Bern. Earlier in his life, he was a barber in New Bern and Bridgeton and a Safety Inspector at Texas Gulf in Aurora. He worked at Barbour Boatworks after high school graduation and in his later years, loved making replicas of boats.
He was the first Captain and a founding member of the Pamlico County Rescue Squad. He served in the Craven County Rescue Squad and Reelsboro Volunteer Fire Department.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Cotten Funeral Home, 2201 Neuse Blvd in New Bern. The family will receive friends from 12-1 prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Hospice of Pamlico County or Meals on Wheels.
