Joan Valentine resident of New Bern, North Carolina since 1995 and longtime Wappinger’s Falls New York resident passed peacefully into the welcoming arms of our Lord, on April 25th surrounded by her loving husband and family. Born February 24, 1935 in Jamaica, New York she was the daughter of George and Ruth Schneider.
Joan was the devoted and loving wife of Edward Valentine for 63 wonderful years. She graduated from Queens College in 1956 and enjoyed a long career as an elementary school teacher in the Highland, Fishkill and Wappinger’s Central school districts. Joan was a Sunday school teacher at the Hopewell Reformed Church, Girl Scout Leader, and the New Hackensack Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary Member. She was an active supporter of the Filling Station local mission of the Pollocksville Presbyterian Church, now an independent non-profit community outreach facility. She was an avid reader and enjoyed boating, watching the backyard birds, sewing, needle work (was a member of the EGA and ANG), word puzzles and playing cards.
Joan was the loving mother of; Edward Valentine (New Castle, Delaware)and his wife Betty and daughters Kim Gililland, Kara MacIver (pre-deceased), Joan Valentine, and grandchildren Marisa Milano and Joe Milano, Susan Buechele (Lagrangeville, New York) and her husband Michael, sons Craig and Brian, and Ronald Valentine( Red Hook, New York) and his wife Dawn and son Christopher. In addition she is survived by her brother, George Schneider and his wife Phyllis and their children Tabatha Wright, Darren Schneider, and Mark Schneider.
A celebration of Joan’s life (funeral service) will be held at Pollocksville Presbyterian Church 311 Main Street Pollocksville, NC 28573 on May 5th at 1:00pm.
