Jean Marie Scott, 85, of New Bern, North Carolina passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023, with her loving family by her side. She was born April 5, 1938, in Washington DC to the late Robert and Gladys Weirich.
Raised in Camp Springs, Maryland, Jean's mother was a homemaker and her father was a wood worker for the U.S. Government. Her grandfather was a tobacco farmer and her grandmother was a grandma's grandma a real angel. The whole family celebrated holiday dinners at the grandparents house. It was a house full, four daughters with their husbands, one son, and six grandchildren. This was a home-grown tradition that is lost on the present generation.
Jean and her sister were grade-A students at Surrattsville High School. Jean excelled academically and was accepted into the National Honor Society during her sophomore year. She was a cheerleader and majorette and sang in the choir. Other passions included dancing and painting. Her summers as a teenager were not idle; she worked with the Washington Bureau of the FBI and with the U.S. Navy in Anacostia, Maryland in the Base Exchange.
She went off to college first attending Towson Teacher's College, and then to the University of Maryland majoring in elementary education. She was inducted into the honor society Phi Kappa Phi and graduated on July 1, 1959. She went into the New York school system and excelled as an elementary school teacher.
In June of 1960 Jean married Michael Eufemio, a medical student at George Washington Medical school. They lived for a couple of years at Fort Knox, Kentucky where her husband was an army doctor. Following they moved to New Rochelle, New York where they lived the majority of their loving 53 year marriage. This union produced six children, Karen, Michael, Mark, James, Martha, and Gina.
It wasn't until the passing of her husband, Michael that a new era for Jean came about. A young love started in 1949, never bloomed until 65 years later when these remaining spouses were reunited and rekindled that flame into a deep loving relationship that continued through six and a half years of fairytale marriage.
Jean is survived by her loving husband of 6 years, Walter Scott; her children, Karen Jean Eufemio Hotchkiss (Hank Gregory), Michael Anthony Eufemio (Kassie Eufemio), Gina Elizabeth Orduna (Martin Orduna); and her grandchildren, Rebecca Moliver (Alex Moliver), Allison Hotchkiss (Henry Rodriguez), Conor Eufemio, Emily Eufemio and Emiliano Orduna.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Dr. Michael Anthony Eufemio, sons Mark Eufemio and James Eufemio; her daughter Martha McGurk; and her sister Martha McNeill.
Her falling asleep produces a void, this world will surely feel.
As a member of The Way International for over 40 years she showed us the way, the way to the word of God, and for that we are eternally grateful.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Cotten Funeral Home. Druss Jones will be officiating the service. The family will receive visitors following the service.
