Janice Heatherly Winfield

Janice Heatherly Winfield, 74, went to her heavenly home Friday morning, February 9, 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. A loving and joyful wife, mother, grandmother and sister, she resided at 429 Swiss Road in New Bern.

Janice was born February 7, 1944, in Goldsboro, North Carolina, to the late Kenneth S.Heatherly and Mary Helen Heatherly.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Steve “Dunk” Winfield; son Christopher Winfield and wife, Karen; daughter Jill Winfield White and husband, Steve; son Daniel Winfield; grandson Jamie Winfield; granddaughter Anna Winfield; sister Liz Sellitsch and husband Rudy; sister Kenny Beck and husband, Jim; and, brother James Heatherly.

Janice was best known for her devotion to her family, her warm smile and to her happy approach to life. She loved the beach and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She truly loved watching Steve, her children and grandchildren play sports and other activities. She became an avid Duke basketball fan and was thrilled to attend a game in Cameron Indoor Stadium and the ACC Basketball Tournament. Janice never met a stranger.

The family will receive guests at noon on Wednesday, February 14th at Cotten Funeral Home, 2201 Neuse Blvd., New Bern, NC, followed by a celebration of Janice’s life.
