She is survived by her son Christopher Gentry (Tracy) as well as daughter Robin Gentry of New Bern NC. She is also survived by a loving “younger” sister Martha ‘Lou’ Lanius of Pekin IL as well as a host of nieces and nephews throughout the US.
Janet was born and raised in Bloomington IN and met a handsome college man named Harold, they were married in 1959. Harold’s profession in Parks and Recreation took them several places in Indiana before they put down roots in Terre Haute when he became a professor at Indiana State University. Most of Janet’s career was spent as an Administrative Assistant and Secretary to the Dean of Health, Physical Education and Recreation at ISU. She was very active in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority as well as many years serving in the nursery and children’s church at First Baptist Church.
In the early years of their marriage, Janet and Harold enjoyed camping and traveling with the kids, towing a StarCraft pop-up all over the country during summer break. When it came time to retire they sold their home and became full time RV’ers for many years (with miles on the road and miles of video tape to prove it…)
They finally settled down in New Bern NC when Harold’s health began to decline in 2007. Janet forged many strong relationships through her work in the Angel Food Ministries program sponsored by Foundation Life Fellowship. Most notable was her closest relationship with her BFF Joyce Johnson. To Ms. Joyce, our family, which is your family, thanks you for your genuine love displayed, God bless you always.
Janet battled Dementia and Alzheimer’s for several years before she went to be with the Lord but was blessed beyond measure from what we describe as Angel’s walking among us who cared for her in a loving, professional way. Polly, Juliana, Okie, Ingid and 3HC of New Bern, the family thanks you all from the bottom of our hearts for you outpouring of love throughout this difficult journey.
