James Marsh, age 77, of New Bern, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Saturday March 29, 2025. James was born on July 28, 1947 in Lafayette, CO. James is survived by Susan his wife of 55 years, son Geoffrey, daughter-in-law Catherine, sister Sue (Johnson), niece Michelle Lewis (husband Braxton Lewis and grand-nieces Brynn and Alana), niece Angela Johnson, and brother-in-law Anthony Rake.
Jim earned his doctorate from Northwestern University and went on to hold a faculty teaching and research position at Cornell University for 29 years. During his time at Cornell, Jim conducted scientific research in the fields of immunology and immunophysiology, publishing and presenting his research findings within the world’sn scientific community. During his time at Cornell he also taught, advised, and mentored many pre-vet, pre-med, and post-doctoral students.
In life, James enjoyed time with his family, reading, wood working, time outdoors, boating, and fishing. He was known by those who loved him to have an extremely dry sense of humor while being a tremendously loyal friend with increadible morale fiber. James always had a hunger for learning, new challenges, and new knowledge.
A celebration of life will be held on April 12, 2025 at 2pm at the New Bern Yacht Club (dress casual).
