He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After serving his time and achieving the rank of a Specialist, he worked for the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington D.C. While working for MPD, he graduated with a Bachelors degree from University of Baltimore and a masters degree from University of Alabama in Criminal Justice. He retired as a Detective after 30 years of service, then became an investigator for the Virginia State Bar.
He is survived by his wife Diana L. Henderson (Dee); sister Joanna Genevish; son James Wilson Henderson III (JW) and wife Kelly Henderson; daughter Katie M. Chorn and husband Jeffrey Chorn; four grandchildren Alexander Chorn, Payton Henderson, Andrew Chorn, Savannah Henderson. The family will receive friends and guests on Sunday February 7 at Cotten Funeral Home from 2-6 pm. The graveside service will be on Monday February 8 at Coastal State Veterans Crematory in Jacksonville, NC at 2:00 pm. Arrangements are by Cotten Funeral Home and Crematory.
