James S. Cottle Jr.

James S. Cottle, Jr, of New Bern, died April 11, 2025. He was born is Richlands, NC on October 7, 1936. James graduated from Contentnea High School, NC in 1956. He was in the Air Force from 1956 thru 1960.

On September 28, 1956, he married Elda Carol Gardner of Kinston, NC at Scott Air Force Base in St. Louis, MO. They moved to Fallon Air Force Base in Nevada. In 1960 they moved back to NC.

James loved hunting, fishing, and shelling. He worked in the telephone industry for over 35 years and retired from Sprint in 1998.

James and Elda enjoyed travels to Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Tahiti, Mexico and various States including South Dakota, Texas, lowa and many other western states. In their later years, they enjoyed shelling in Eleuthrea and Cat Islands in the Bahamas as well as Marco and Sanibel Islands in Florida.

He is survived by his son, Dennis Cottle and his wife Elizabeth Cottle of Cary, his daughter June Blasey of the home, granddaughter Taylor Blasey of Louisville, KY and a nephew William Cottle of Coconut Creek, Florida.

The family will receive friends from 6:00pm - 8:00pm Tuesday at the Cotten Funeral Home.

James will be laid to rest beside his wife, Elda, at Greenleaf Memorial Park for a private service at a later date.

In lieu of flowers make a donation in his name to St. Jude.
