Jack Duffy Hancock, age 81, of Merritt passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023. A native of the Bridgeton area, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1960 and served honorably. After returning home he worked in construction for most of his life and was known as a "Jack of all trades." In his younger days he was full of life and a "Wicker-Bill." In more recent times, he slowed down and turned his life over to the Lord, living a fairly quiet life in Pamlico County before his health began to decline. At the time of his passing he was living in an assisted living center in Ahoskie. He will be remembered by those closest to him as a wonderful brother.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert James Hancock and Dollie Springle Hancock; brothers and sisters, Walter Hancock, Sadie Weaver, Lois Pugh, Opal Gibble, Joyce Rachid, and James "Jimmy" Hancock.
He is survived by his sister, Jewldean James of New Bern; and three sons, Duffy Hancock, Chris Hancock, and Russ Hancock.
Friends are invited to join the family for a celebration of Jack's life at Greenleaf Memorial Park Lakeside Chapel on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at 2:00 pm. Military honors will be presented by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions may be made in Jack's name to Bridgeton Christian Church.
Arrangements are in the care of Cotten Funeral Home & Crematory.
