David was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, camping, and anything that involved being outside and, on the water, especially with his family. He loved Eastern NC and spent most of his life enjoying the area. He left for only a short period after he enlisted in the Coast Guard. He spent much of his time aboard a ship, in the North Atlantic, learning the electrical trade. He then came home and started an electrical business. He was a serial entrepreneur by heart and owned and managed several businesses throughout his life with his wife, Deborah. His greatest accomplishment was always his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 30 years Deborah, daughter Allison Broughton Collins and her husband Matthew, daughter Meagan Broughton and her husband, Ed, stepdaughter Jennifer Hunt and her husband, Mike, stepdaughter Celeste Hall. Grandchildren Parker, Tyler, and Isabella Collins; Jaxon Carroll and Baker Blevins; Hannah Pittman and her husband Shay Crider, Joey Meadows, Beau and Luke Hunt. Sister Linda Woodard and children Robbie Woodard and Julie Woodard and their children.
He is predeceased by his mother, Rose Simmons Broughton Gause, and father, Randolph Broughton, brother Ravon Broughton, and brother-in-law Robert Woodard.
