With great sadness on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, Hope Moore Mercer went home to be with the Lord and the love of her life Theo Allen Mercer who recently passed earlier this month. Hope was born February 4, 1944, in Jones County to Walter Quincey and Josephine Robinson Moore.
Throughout the years Hope worked in Daycares in New Bern and kept children in her home but was best known for her years she worked for Laura's Cakes in New Bern. She loved working in the garden and her flowers beds. She was a faithful member of New Covenant Church in New Bern for 60 years.
Hope met Allen while working on a school project and Allen immediately fell in love. They were married for 62 years and had four children together. She stood by Allen's side through his sickness until the day he graduated to his heavenly home. Hope was a fiercely dedicated mother, raising four equally tenacious and enthusiastic children. Hope was our biggest cheerleader and our constant supporter. Our family would not be where it is today if we didn't have Hope as a mother. Becoming a grandmother was her greatest joy. Each one of her grandchildren held a special place in her heart. Being a grandmother was one of the most important parts of her life, a role that gave her much pride and joy. She was an excellent grandmother, supportive, kind, hilarious, and witty and we will all miss her dearly.
She is survived by her four children, Crystal Elaine Mercer (Kenneth), Deborah Gaye Carpenter (Marty), Timothy Allen Mercer (Jill) and Walter Thomas Mercer (Melissa), her sister Charity Wilson grandchildren Joshua Wallace (Shirley), Bryant Wallace (Lenora), Rodney Ormond, Noelle Carpenter, Kenny Mercer (Hannah), Emily Gunn (Jeremy), Samantha Melvin (Zach), Alanna Morris (Eric), and Lauren Ciampi (Nick) and nineteen great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years Theo Allen Mercer.
Hope will be laid to rest in a private Graveside service on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at the Banks Cemetery on Ten Mile Fork Road near Trenton, NC. The service will be officiated by Rev. Rex Bennett.
The family will receive friends and family for a Celebration of Life at New Covenant Church, New Bern NC at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 21, 2024 officiated by her pastor, Rev. Benjamin Britt and special friends, Chaplain Jacob Snider and Billy Winstead.
Arrangements are in the care of Cotten Funeral Home & Crematory.
