He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia “Anne” Edwards Norris; their three children Lisa Norris White and husband Franklin C. White of New Bern, Harvey B. Norris, Jr. of Raleigh, NC and Jeffrey L. Norris of Wilmington, NC; three sisters Shirley Straker of Aurora, Sarah Cahoon of New Bern, Mary Toler of New Bern; six brothers Sherwood Norris of New Bern, Billy Norris of New Bern, George Norris of Trenton, Robert Norris of New Bern, Edward Lee Norris of Trenton and Donald Norris of Grantsboro; two grandchildren Frank White and Shannon Mackey; five great granddaughters.
He was the son of the late Sherwood and Laura Norris. “Shute” retired from the NCDOT and the NC National Guard Army Reserves. He was a member of Rhems United Methodist Church and enjoyed driving the church bus on Sunday’s and to various activities and functions. “Shute” never met a stranger at least not for long. He worked hard all his life and even in his retirement years it was difficult to keep up with him.
Visitation will be held Friday evening, March 13, 2015 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Cotten Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Rhems United Methodist Church with Rev. Connie Stutts, Pastor officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park in New Bern, NC. The family will receive friends at various other times at their home in the community of Rhems.

The family would like to thank all the nurses and staff at Carolina East Medical Center for their compassion during this difficult time and would like to thank everyone for their prayers and out pouring of support.
