A transplant from Bronx, NY and Closter, NJ, Gerald and his wife Lynda came to New Bern in 1991. He retired from the Port Authority of NYNJ where he had a successful 39-year career as an architect. He loved the City of New Bern. He and Lynda had many friends and were very involved in all the happenings in New Bern’s Downtown Historic District. He took great pride in restoring their home on New Street.
He is survived by his loving family: children, Ellyn (Rick) Cooksey, Michael (Marian) Hobbins, and Mark (Robin) Hobbins; grandchildren Christopher, Michelle, Aidan, Ash and Sierra, great granddaughter Juniper; sister-in-Law Rose Hobbins, nephew Patrick Joseph Hobbins, niece Andrea (Carmine) DiDomenico.
He is predeceased by his first wife Marion Hobbins the mother of his children, brother Joseph Hobbins, step-daughter Leigh (Michael) Tarullo, and his wife Lynda Hobbins the love of his life for 26 years.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at Old St Paul Catholic Church, 504 Middle Street on Monday February 28 at 11:00 am officiated by Father Thomas Tully. Gerald will be laid to rest with Lynda in St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
