Gerald P. Brown

Jerry was born May 7, 1940 in Clinton, Iowa to Helen and Allen Brown. He graduated from Charlestown High School in Indiana. Following graduation, Jerry joined the Marine Corp as a jet mechanic. He moved to New Bern in 1973 and worked as a successful carpenter for over 30 years. Jerry eventually retired from the facility maintenance department on Cherry Point. Jerry was loved the outdoors and was an avid boater and fisherman. He also enjoyed volunteering his time to St. Paul’s Catholic Church, particularly their youth basketball program.

Jerry was preceded in death by his sister, Gail Miller.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Shirley R. Brown; children, Stephen Belrose (Pam), Daniel Belrose, Temple Brown Berry (Charles), and Gerald Patrick Brown Jr. (Marsha) of St. Mary’s, GA; two sisters, Judy Cole (Ron) and Rita Moulin (Carl) of Ocala, FL; two brothers, Donnie Brown of Pasadena, CA and Tom Brown of Charlestown, Indiana; grandchildren, Brittany Belrose, Laura Belrose, Blake Belrose, Jordan Hill, Mason Piner, GraceAnne Piner, Angel Holbrook, Shawna Ingram, Madison Brown and Ayden Brown; and two great-grandchildren, Emma Holbrook and Forrest Sergi-Holt.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Cotten Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held the following day at 3:00 pm on Friday, December 1, 2017 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends at their home following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks (could also use “requests” or “suggests”) that memorials in Jerry’s name be made to the Michael J. Foxx Foundation, Crystal Coast Hospice Inc., or the American Cancer Society.
