Ernest Ray Cahoon Jr.

Ray was born in New Bern on October 16, 1944. He joined the Army and served proudly for six years and worked at Weyerhaeuser for 40 years. Ray enjoyed hunting, fishing, and devoted his time to the New Bern Battlefield site.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest & Sarah, and sister, Fran.

Ray is survived by his wife of almost 25 years, Linda; children, Ben (Amanda), John (Jennifer), Johnny Ray, Jennifer (Tommy), Rufus (Heidi), and Denise (Allen); grandchildren, Hunter, Taylor, Owen, Wesley, Mackenzie, Hillary, Brice, and Caleb; and great-grandchildren, Jeremiah and J.J.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at New Life Church on Cherry Point Road. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 am in the sanctuary. Ray will be laid to rest in Greenleaf Memorial Park following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ray's name may be made to the New Bern Historical Society.
