Denise S. Wheeler

Pre-deceased by husband Edwin “Eddie” Wheeler, her parents Jeanne and Jacques Benard as well as her brother Jacques Benard.

Beloved mother of Nanette DeSanto (husband Richard), Thomas (wife Janerie) and Lawrence Wheeler. Dear grandmother of Mallory Wheeler, Danielle Hurley (husband John).

Denise grew up in Woodside, New York attending the High School of Performing Arts in New York City. After graduating, she worked for the New York Telephone Company where she met her future husband Eddie.

Denise resided in New Bern for the last 36 years since moving from Ardsley, New York. As an active member and organist at St. Christopher Episcopal Church until 2009 and a member of Curcillo. She worked as a real estate agent for Century 21 in Havelock until 2005 and past Secretary of Havelock Board of Realtors. A past President and Sunshine secretary of the Carolina Pines Garden Club she continued to be an active member until her death. She was a past board member of Craven Concerts in New Bern.

Denise loved people, greeted everyone with a smile and couldn’t go to a store or restaurant without running into someone she knew.

Visitation will be Cotten Funeral Home from 6-9 Sunday. Funeral mass will be held at St Christopher’s Episcopal Church Havelock at 10 on Monday. Her burial will be in New York.
