Danna Eugena Gilbert

Danna Eugena Cook Gilbert, known to all as Gena, was born on February 5, 1949 in Gastonia, North Carolina. She graduated from Whiteville High School in 1967. She lived in several towns in her home state including Kinston, Lake Waccamaw, Washington and Morehead City. Gena loved her family, photography, and the Crystal Coast. She enjoyed a career as a real estate agent in Morehead City for many years. She was an ardent supporter of the Boys and Girls Clubs of NC in Morehead City where she spent many volunteer hours with the children there. Gena passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 19, 2023.

Gena was predeceased by her parents Dan Eugene Cook and Rebecca Rhyne Cook Casey, her husband, Harold Eugene Gilbert, and a sister, Joan Dorman.

Survivors include; her sister, Becky Casey of Greensboro, Georgia, her children, Sherry Hull (Ed) of Denver, NC, Kelley Toler (Doug) of Morehead City, NC, Michell Gillman (Dan) of Newport, NC, Bryan Gilbert (Ashley) of Six Mile, SC, and Ashley Fisher (Kevin Nations) of Pickens, SC.

Her grandchildren; Grayson Hull, Jackson Hull, Bishop Guempel, Jake Guempel, Sarah Staley (JD), Heather Binkley, Shaian Geronimo, Camdan Gillman, Shelby Nicholson, Jed Fisher (Jenny), and Mackenzie Fisher.

Her great-grandchildren; Aubrey Binkley, Easton Binkley, Blakely Hamilton, Caisen Hamilton, Ryder Staley, and Fischer Staley.

The family would like to thank the staff of Brookdale Assisted Living Facility in New Bern for all of their support and care during this difficult time. They would also like to thank Regina Messina for the love and affection shown to our mother.

Per her wishes, a funeral will not be planned, rather a family celebration will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain, 3321 Bridges Street, P.O. Box 1514, Morehead City, NC 28557.
