Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Andrea Snow of Peabody, Massachusetts, her son Alan Snow and his wife Joyce of New Bern, grandson Paul Snow of Hamilton, Massachusetts, granddaughter Kelly Badmus of Lynn, Massachusetts, great granddaughter Mariah Snow of Hamilton, Massachusetts, great granddaughter Olivia Badmus of Lynn, Massachusetts, one niece, several nephews, and many friends.
She is predeceased by her loving husband Hubert “Bud” Snow, her parents Leslie and Marie (Levesque) Brewer, and their beloved cat “Lucy.”
Connie was born in Beverly, Massachusetts on January 24, 1929, at the dawn of the Great Depression. She and Bud both grew up in Beverly where they met in high school. Connie and Bud married in Beverly’s Dane Street Congregational Church in 1950 while Connie was a student at Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts. Lifelong Beverly residents, in 1989 Connie and Bud relocated to their retirement home in New Bern.
Connie placed a high value on education and a strong work ethic. Following graduation from Beverly High School in 1947, Connie delayed further education and worked full-time as a waitress to earn money for college. She ultimately earned a bachelor’s degree from Simmons College, graduating with honors in 1953. Connie was the first college graduate in her family. While Bud was a student at Brown University’s Graduate School of Banking, Connie helped edit and type his lengthy case studies and other papers, clearly a tedious task long before the arrival of personal computers and word processing.
While raising her family Connie was very involved in several volunteer activities including roles with Alan and Andrea’s Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, teaching Sunday school and serving on various committees with the Dane Street Congregational Church, organizing Christmas gift drives for the needy in Beverly, volunteering at the Beverly Cove Improvement Association, and transporting children to and from Beverly’s YMCA kindergarten. After volunteering at Beverly Hospital for several years, Connie was hired to manage the gift shop, and served in that role for 10 years.
Connie also worked for the National Park Service at the Salem (Massachusetts) Maritime National Historic Site, located on the waterfront. Her duties included working in the Custom House and walking the full length of historic Derby Wharf at the end of her shift, to inspect the wharf and the Light Station at the end of the wharf.
Throughout her life Connie remained passionate about history, especially the Civil War era. After searching the east coast for a retirement location, her love of history drew them to New Bern. Connie was active in the New Bern Camera Club, the Lower Neuse Bird Club, the local AARP Chapter, and New Bern’s First Presbyterian Church. Some of Connie’s Camera Club prizewinning photos were utilized in Swiss Bear promotions.
Always devoted to her family, Connie and her loved ones enjoyed snow skiing, ice skating, camping, travel, and caring for their pets. She loved the outdoors and thoroughly enjoyed tending to many flowers and other outdoor plantings in their yards in Beverly and New Bern. Her early gardening “lessons” for Andrea and Alan blossomed later in their lives; in childhood, neither were too keen on pulling weeds or removing beetles from the many rose bushes around the property in Beverly!
In retirement Connie and Bud enjoyed several memorable road trips across America and traveling abroad. During these trips Connie would explore the history and stories about the many sites they visited, and return with hundreds of photos, some books, and other mementos to happily revisit the experiences with Bud, family members, and friends for years. Connie enjoyed life!
Connie’s family is deeply grateful for the thoroughly professional and loving care Connie received during her final days at CarolinaEast Medical Center. The kindness and support experienced with everyone we encountered helped us through a very difficult and emotional time. CarolinaEast patients and their families are blessed to have such caring and compassionate healthcare professionals in our community.
