Charles Edward Hill Sr.

Born in Chocowinity, NC, the son of the late Edward Hill and Lillian Lewis Hill. Prior to his retirement and return to New Bern in 1980, Charlie worked with the Department of Defense in Washington, DC. Charlie was a long time member of Temple Baptist Church, also a 62 year member of Doric Masonic Lodge of New Bern and Past Master, a KCCH of New Bern Scottish Rite member, and Sudan Temple and served on the Chef Crew.

Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Miller Hill, they were married November 19, 1949, a sister, Romona Hill Sawyer of Belhaven, NC, a brother, Earl Hill of Washington, NC.

He is survived by two sons, Charles E. Hill, Jr., and wife Linda of California, MD, and David M. Hill and his husband Dane Ellington of Washington, DC.; his grandchildren, Charles E. Hill, III and, Sean Ryan Hill and wife Jennifer; and three great-grandchildren, Ethan, Wyatt and Eleanor Lynn. Charlie lived a life of purpose, compassion, dignity and respect for all and will be remembered by family, friends, neighbors and individuals whose lives he touched and impacted in so many ways.

Services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, August 17, 2018 at Cotten Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park with Masonic Rites by Doric Masonic Lodge.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
