Carmen was born on March 13, 1944 in the Black Forest of Germany to the late Artur and Lili Hezel. She was born under the difficult times of World War II and grew up afterwards in the French-occupied part of Germany. Therefore, she had to learn in school her second language, French. Later in her life she learned two more languages, Chinese and English. As a teenager, she met her husband and love of her life, Helmut Weisser. After graduation, she studied accounting and became a Certified Public Accountant. Carmen was always open to different cultures and when her husband got an offer to work in Taiwan, she was immediately in favor to go there. She stayed there with her husband for five years and adjusted with pleasure to the Chinese culture. During this time, she built up a great connection to the Chinese people and also studied Sinology, the language, culture and politics of China. Carmen liked to travel with her husband and visited around 50 different countries.
After their time in China they moved straight to New Bern where Helmut received his next assignment. She fell in love with River Bend and built up a great relationship with the people there. Carmen loved ballroom dancing and enjoyed participating in any possible activities that allowed her to do so. She was one of the first members of the New Bern Fencing Club and enjoyed this until her 70's. She was an animal lover and was committed to rescuing any animal. Carmen and Helmut founded their own private foundation, The Helmut and Carmen Weisser Foundation, Inc. This foundation will uphold her memory in supporting general health, animals, environment and nature conservation.
Carmen is survived by her husband of 55 years, Helmut Weisser and some relatives in Germany.
A celebration of Carmen's life will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at Cotten Funeral Home. Her husband will receive friends following the service.
