Born to William and Gertrude Jones on December 15, 1946 she was raised in Pollocksville, NC. It was there she met and later wed the love of her life Lonnie Scott. They were married on December 16, 1967 and had 3 children Kimberly Scott Spitler, Jennifer Scott Frazee and Lonnie Bryan Scott. They shared 53 years of marriage and were a constant reminder for all that falling in love is easy, staying in love is special, and that marriage is proof that God answers prayers.
Brenda spent her life humbling herself and serving others. Aside from being a loving wife, mother and friend she served her community in the Craven County School System primarily as a Teacher’s Assistant at Bangert Elementary School for over 20 years. She was also an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. In these roles she used her life to touch and shape so many others in ways that will live beyond her and we are grateful that ours are among them.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Brenda. She had an uncanny ability to find happiness in her daily activities. Brenda loved quiet days at home surrounded by family and friends, reading, and playing games with her grandchildren. After retirement, she and her loving husband enjoyed traveling with friends and have priceless memories from their adventures.
Brenda is survived by her husband Lonnie, their three children Kim Scott Spitler and her husband Bo, Jennifer Scott Frazee and her husband Chris, and Lonnie Bryan Scott and his wife Katie; her 5 grandchildren Carson Spitler, Connor Spitler, Grayson Frazee, Griffin Frazee and Caysee Scott; her sister Rose White, her brothers Bill Jones and Doug Jones and brother-in-law Ralph Scott Jr. She is preceded in death by her parents William and Gertrude Jones, her in-laws Ralph and Evelyn Scott and her sister Nell Johnston.
She will be laid to rest on Saturday, February 6, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am at Tabernacle Baptist Church in New Bern with Pastor Scott Gleason officiating. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow the service in Westview Cemetery in Kinston.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Arrangements are by Cotten Funeral Home & Crematory.
