As a young man Archie loved baseball and played in the old Coastal Plains League. He had a reputation for hitting home runs at Kafer Park that flew over the roof of the old Armory building and landed in Queen Street. He also was a National 4-H Health King and was rewarded by being invited to a luncheon with First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt.
Archie took a great interest in local education and was a PTO president, served as Chairman of the Craven County Board of Education, served on the board of trustees for Craven Tech and the Craven Evaluation and Training Center. He was also a member of Doric Lodge #568, New Bern Scottish Rite, The Sudan Temple and New Bern Shrine Club. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed hard work and farming. He had a heart of gold and always planted a garden that was many times the size as what was needed for his family so that he could give vegetables to friends and family. He enjoyed the outdoors in general and especially Quail and Deer hunting.
He worked for the Coca Cola Company for 36 years and retired as the Manager of the Rocky Mount, NC plant.
Archie is preceded in death by his wonderful wife of 69 years, Eunice B. White. Daughter Janet White Daigle, his parents and Brothers J M White Jr, Ray White and Earl White.
He is survived by his son, Gary L White, (Debra) of Cove City, Grandchildren, Chris White, (Heidi), Lauren Dishman, (Brian), Jason Mahoney, (Laura), Kelly Woolery, (Drew), Richie Daigle, Bethany Daigle and Caroline Daigle and eight Great Grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Cotten Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 pm Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Greenleaf Memorial Park. His funeral service will follow at 2:30 pm at Centenary United Methodist Church, followed by a reception at the church.
