Annie Marie Jenkins, the daughter of Curtis Jenkins Sr. and Jannie M. (Satterthwaite) Jenkins, was born on May 29, 1942, in Ransomville, NC (Beaufort County). She was called to rest on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at her home in Vanceboro, NC.
Annie graduated from Eastern High School in Washington D.C. and later moved to New York where she worked at a bank. A few years later she moved to Vanceboro, NC where she attended Craven Community College and received her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. She put that degree to great use when she and one of her close friends, Bernadette King opened a daycare center in 2003, Unique Childcare, and later opened her own daycare, Children’s World, in 2006. She decided after 6 years in the childcare field to retire.
Annie was a strong, independent, and very opinionated woman who always pushed you to do your best. She was a hard worker, kindhearted and loved to travel. She enjoyed painting, building puzzles, and spending time with family and friends. She was the kind of person who always made sure her family was good and let them know that she was there for them. Annie was a daughter, a sister, a mother, a grandmother, and one of the most unique and special woman her family could ask for.
Annie is survived by her two daughters, Tiarra Benton (Chris) and Kiarra Jenkins, her godson Brian “Keify” Dawson, three grandsons, Devin Miles, Christopher Benton Jr., and Ke’Mari Smith, two granddaughters, Bre’iana Benton and Christiana Benton, three sisters, Eva Allen, Deborah Jones (Bruce), and Rebecca Sumner, three brothers, Curtis Jenkins Jr. (Cledius), Abraham Jenkins, and Terry Jenkins (Denise), and a host of nieces and nephews and relatives and friends.
