She was born on August 17, 1927, in Loami, IL, the daughter of Elmer and Helen (Archer) Schramm. Luella married the love of her life, James M. Marr, Jr., on July 24, 1947. He preceded her in death on March 10, 1994.
Luella attended Nipper Elementary School and began high school in New Berlin before graduating from Waverly High School in 1945. She began her professional career at First State Bank in New Berlin, where she worked from 1945 to 1956. Afterward, she transitioned to selling beauty products so she could remain at home and raise her family, all while helping her husband on the family farm.
Throughout her life, Luella was known for her servant heart and commitment to others. She was a longtime volunteer at Lewis Memorial Christian Village in Springfield and an active member of the Loami Christian Church. She was also involved in several organizations including the Red Hat Society, NTA Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary #743 in New Berlin. In later years, she attended Lakeside Christian Church.
In 1980, Luella and her husband built D-Marr-D Apartments, which she continued to operate for over two decades. During that time, she served not only as a landlord but also as a caregiver and friend to many of the residents—just one example of the compassion and dedication that defined her life.
Luella had a passion for gardening, traveling, and especially cruising. She cherished time spent with her family, and her great-grandchildren held a very special place in her heart. Known for her strong will and determination, she faced life with grace, grit, and a deep love for those around her.
She is survived by her two daughters, Debora Marr (Eric) Van Tuyle of Roodhouse, IL, and Deanna (Jim) Nergenah of Loami, IL; two beloved grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Adam (Caroline) Nergenah and their children, Beck and Fallon, of Kingston Springs, TN; and Jennifer (Jordan) Streby and their children, Jett and Jada, of Argyle, TX. She is also survived by her brother, John (Nina) Schramm of Loami, IL.
