Zachary R. Lemieux

Zachary R. Lemieux, age 20, of E. Freetown, passed away in his parent's loving arms. Saturday, September 9, 2017 in Boston Children’s Hospital after complications from a lifelong illness. He was born in Providence, RI, the son of Roger A. and Jennifer L. (Galipeau) Lemieux of E. Freetown.

Zachary was a 2015 graduate of Nazarene Christian Academy in New Bedford, where he was the class Valedictorian and was a member of the National Society of High School Scholars. He was dual enrolled at UMASS Dartmouth during his junior and senior years. Upon graduation, Zach enrolled in the College of Engineering at UMASS Dartmouth where he excelled in Astrophysics earning a 4.0 GPA and was acknowledged on the Chancellor’s List, Dean’s List and was a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society.

Zachary truly enjoyed computer and video gaming and competed locally and internationally on sponsored teams.

In addition to his loving parents, Zachary is survived by his (uncle / godfather) Robert P. Lemieux; his (aunt / godmother) Louise Barrett and her husband William J. Smith; and aunt Andrea Galipeau; grandfather Ali Querim; cousins Bryan P. Lemieux, Rochelle A. Barrett, Steven P. Barrett, John Lemieux, Demetri Marsden as well as loving family and friends. The Grandson of the late George A. and Blanche R. (Langlois) Lemieux, Noralie (Kuechler) Querim and Alexander Galipeau Jr. and nephew of the late George E. Lemieux.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at 9AM from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by his Funeral Mass at 10AM in St. John Neumann Church, 157 Middleboro Rd., E. Freetown. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 8PM. Burial will take place in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Bedford. Memorial contributions in his honor may be made to:
