Born in New Bedford, the son Maria da Conceicao Furtado Pimentel Araujo of St. Michaels, Azores and the late Norberto Placido Jeronimo Araujo, he was educated in St. Michaels and returned to the United States when he was 18 and worked for NEUCO for 30 years before his retirement.
Val was a founder, coach, and member of the St. Michael Futebol Club for 30 years and an assistant soccer coach for New Bedford High School for 12 years. He was also an avid Patriots and Bruins fan.
In addition to his wife and mother, Val is survived by his children Cameron J. Araujo and Alyssa M. Araujo; a grandson Greyson Araujo; two brothers Norberto Pimentel Araujo and Paulo Cesar Pimentel Araujo both of St. Michaels; a sister Carolina Pimentel Araujo of St. Michaels; his father and mother in-law John L. and Maria R. Arruda of New Bedford and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 9am from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in New Bedford. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4 to 8pm in the funeral home.
