

Theodore J. “Ted” Turbak, age 87, of New Bedford died Thursday, June 18, 2015 after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Esther V. (Chaney) Turbak, with whom he shared nearly 52 years of marriage. He was predeceased by his son Theodore A. “Teddy” Turbak in 2006.
Born and raised in New Bedford to the late Anthony and Mary Anna (Gonet) Turbak, Ted was a lifelong resident of the city. He graduated from New Bedford Vocational High School in 1947 where he had been a member of the Football Team, and then served as a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Together, Ted and his wife ran the Ox-Bow Gift Shop in New Bedford, specializing in custom woodcraft and cupolas made to order. Ted also made the cupolas for the Cape Cod Cupola Company for over 40 years, retiring in 1987. He was a coin collector and loved to read.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a brother, Dr. Albin Turbak of Atlanta, GA, a sister, Helen Prachniak of Baltimore, MD and many loving nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Emil and Chester Turbak.
