Thelma R. (Slowinski) Souza, 71, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2025, in Charlton Memorial Hospital after a battle with a long illness. She was an incredibly hard fighter, and she gave it her all. She was the cherished wife of Steven Souza whom she married when they were both 19.
Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Mieczyslaw and Hilda (Stark) Slowinski she grew up there before moving in Lakeville in 1995.
Thelma was a supervisor at Walgreen’s in Middleboro, a company she worked for over 40 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing games on her tablet like Candy Crush. She also enjoyed watching TV and movies, going out to eat and going to the casinos. She was a very generous woman, and she had a knack for making personalized gift baskets for family and friends.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Steven Souza and his wife Rikki of Easton, a grandson, Jacob David; and a sister, Phyllis Denton of Madison, CT. She was the sister of the late Mitchell Slowinski and William Slowinski.
Her graveside service will be Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. in Pine Grove Cemetery, 1100 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Her visitation will be Monday 6-8 p.m. in Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, MA 02745. For online tribute/directions: www.rock-funeralhome.com.
