Shirley Sylvia, age 82, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013 at home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Arthur Sylvia. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in October of this year.
Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late William and Rhea Falconer, after William passed away Rhea remarried Steve Fortier. Shirley lived most of her life in New Bedford and Fall River. Shirley was a homemaker for most of her life raising five children, but did also work and retire from Cape News Company. She enjoyed cooking, knitting, bird watching, sitting on the porch on a summer day, camping and the company of family and friends.
Survivors include: Daughter Pamela and her husband Joseph Tripp; son Gary and his wife Robbie, son Ronald (deceased) and wife Darlene, sons Warren and Michael, her beloved sister, Ilene Waleka, a brother Gerald Fortier and wife Sheila, a brother Roland Falconer (deceased), many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Shirley will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service that will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 9 am at St Mary Parish, 440 Main Street, Fairhaven. Immediately following the service a breakfast will be held at the Century House, 107 South Main Street, Acushnet. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted and the burial will be private.
