Sandy was born in Boston to the late Howard and Phyllis (Haskell) Picott. She grew up in York Heights, Maine, before moving to the area shortly after graduating from Gorham State College and marrying Dennis in 1969. She was a former member of the North Baptist Church.
Sandy tried out several occupations over the years, starting out as a teacher at Oxford School in Fairhaven, and then becoming a librarian at Rochester Memorial School. Later, she joined Paragon Tours as a tour coordinator, and before retiring, she was a receptionist at Gloria & Company salonspa. She also volunteered as a tour guide of Riverside Cemetery and other locations throughout Fairhaven.
Sandy was an avid nature lover. She looked forward to every spring, when snow gave way to crocuses and daffodils. She enjoyed teaching her beloved grandchildren about backyard birds.
Sandy was a social butterfly, and she always made time for fun with her friends and family. Her quick wit and wicked sense of humor were her trademarks.
The family would like to thank Brandon Woods, New Bedford and New England Hospice, for the care and compassion they provided Sandy during her illness. Some of the staff members knew she was an Elvis fan, and they often played his music for her.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Erin Poe and her husband Michael of New Bedford; a son, Christopher Main of New Bedford; three grandchildren, Ella and Lukas Poe and Laura Main; two sisters, Gail Rust of Shirley and Patti Starkey of Jay, ME; and several nieces and nephews.
Her Visitation will be Thursday, June 29, 2023 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Boulevard, New Bedford. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 .p.m. Burial will be private.
