Ronald J. Young

Ronald J. Young, 60, of New Bedford, passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Mass General Hospital in Boston following a courageous battle with leukemia. He was the loving husband of Maria J. (DeMello) Young with whom he shared 36 years of marriage.

Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Roland E. and Rita (Dupont) Young, he was a lifelong resident of New Bedford.

Mr. Young had worked as an Assistant Maintenance Engineer at the Bristol County House of Corrections in New Bedford and Dartmouth. He previously worked in maintenance at the Sacred Heart Home in New Bedford for many years.

Ronald was a huge fan of motorcycles and enjoyed riding with his family. He enjoyed family camping trips, walking the Cape Cod Canal, nature walks and neighborhood walks. He enjoyed bon fires in his yard, making puzzles and working on projects of all kinds. Ron was a handyman who enjoyed working on cars with his son. He welcomed and loved the many animals his daughter brought home. Ron loved his family and attending family gatherings. He will be missed and loved forever.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Melissa M. Young and Christopher J. Young of New Bedford; his siblings, Robert J. Young, Randy Young, Rachel Cornell and Robin Rose and her husband Jay all of New Bedford; a brother and sister in-law, Antonio and Maria DeMello of New Bedford; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Dennis Cornell and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Eliseu and Maria Mello.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, January 17, 2022 from 5-8 p.m. in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. His Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1359 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford.
