Robert “Bob” was born May 26, 1932 to Bertha Estella Cahoone and Austin L. Herman in Providence, RI. He graduated from Hope High School in Providence, RI then enlisted for four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He served as a Cryptographer and spent two years at Haneda Air Base in Tokyo, Japan.
He married Georgia Marguerite Tinley on July 2, 1954 at the Line Baptist Church in Foster, RI.
After completing his tour of duty, he became a salesman for several companies and spent 28 years working Herman Inc. of Avon, MA. He retired in 1992 and built his home in Whitefield, NH. His love of skiing brought him to Whitefield and Bretton Woods.
He was an active member of the Whitefield Community Baptist Church and served on several boards and committees. He served as Chaplain for The American Legion Post #41, Commander of VFW Post 10675, Chaplain of North Star 8 Masonic Lodge in Lancaster, NH. Bob became a Mason while serving in Tokyo. The Lodge was stated by General Douglas MacArthur and chartered under the Philippine Islands at #125.
He is survived by five children, Margaret Caron and her husband Paul of Lakeville, Kathryn Moreira and her husband Joseph of New Bedford, Lisa Mello and her husband Wayne of Palm Coast, FL, Robert Herman of Lawrence, and Susan Tivey of E. Freetown; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
