Born in Vermont, the daughter of the late Joseph and Ida (Allaire) Samson, she resided in New Bedford most of her life.
Rita worked as a cook for the New Bedford School System Food Service Program. She was the former President of the Ladies of St Anne’s Sodality. She enjoyed reading, search-a-word puzzles, playing Bingo and Scratch Tickets.
Survivors include her daughters, Joanne E. Medeiros and Jeanne Medeiros of New Bedford, 3 sisters, Dora Sherman of Fairhaven; Cecila Douglas and her husband Richard of Springfield, MA; Sr. Claudette Samson of Chicopee, MA; 1 brother Maurice Samson and his wife Cecila of Acushnet, MA and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Flora Bridge, Alfred Samson, Robeia Marshall, Leonel Sampson and Edward Samson.
Her funeral will be held Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 9am at the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, 4256 Acushnet Avenue, New Bedford. Burial will follow in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 5-8pm. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
