Born in East Providence, Rhode Island, Raymond lived most of his life in Fairhaven. He was the son of the late Manuel and Madeline (O’Neil) Rodrigues and the step-son of the late Christine V. Rodrigues.
Mr. Rodrigues was a graduate of New Bedford High School and the Waltham Watch Repair School. He worked at Morse Cutting Tools for 40 years until his retirement. He also had his own business where he repaired watches. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in both World War II and the Korean War. He was the proud recipient of the United Nations Medal, Bronze Star and the Korean Service Medal. He lived life to the fullest and enjoyed being surrounded by his beloved family.
Survivors include his 5 children; Sheila-Rae Dlugosinski and her husband Karl of Mattapoisett, Garry Raymond Rodrigues of Fairhaven, Sandra-Marie Kuczewski and her companion Michael O’Leary of New Bedford, Paul Rodrigues of North Carolina, Kathryn Leonard of New Bedford, a brother, Edwin V. Rodrigues and his wife Lorraine of Dartmouth, a sister-in-law; Blanche “Chick” Souza of Fairhaven, daughter-in-laws Darleen “Peewee” Rodrigues of NC, Shannon Rodrigues of NC and Cyndi Rodrigues of TX, 14 grandchildren, 6 great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Steven and David Rodrigues, grandfather to the late Jaydeen Rodrigues, and father-in-law to the late Walter Kuczewski.
In accordance with his wishes he was cremated. His Funeral Mass with cremains present will be held Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 10 am at St Joseph Church, Spring Street, Fairhaven. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 5-8pm. Arrangements are in the care of the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association - Massachusetts Chapter, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
