Raymond H. Hamel

Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Henry and Maria (Sampson) Hamel, he was a lifelong resident of the city.

Mr. Hamel had worked in the textile industry as a slasher tender at Berkshire Hathaway.

Raymond loved playing cards, Bingo and trips to the casinos. Known as a jokester, Raymond enjoyed watching movies, dining in his favorite restaurants and spending time with his loving family. He was a man of wisdom who loved to give advice and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include a daughter Brenda Hamel of Wareham; a son, Gene Hamel and his wife Charlene of Buzzards Bay; five grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Joyce Lombardi, three grandchildren and five siblings.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 from 9-10:30am in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Funeral Mass at 11am in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1359 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford. Burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
