Paul A. Letourneau, age 84, of Acushnet, passed away, Sunday, February 12, 2012 in St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of Lillian J. (Ferreira) Letourneau to whom he has been married for the past 64 years.
Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Hector and Regina (Pontbriand) Letourneau, he had been a lifelong area resident.
A Veteran of the United States Navy, he worked as an upholsterer and was the owner of Paul’s Custom Upholstery Shop. Prior to that, he installed elevators and was a production expeditor at Aerovox.
He was a square dance caller and was active in many square dance associations. He was the founder of the New Bedford Car Club in the 1950’s and enjoyed working on antique cars. An avid fisherman, he also enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife he is survived by three sons; Robert Letourneau and his wife Debra of New Bedford, Richard Donald Letourneau of Onset, and Raymond Michael Letourneau and his wife Charlene of New Bedford, daughter-in-law; Diane Letourneau of New Bedford, two sisters; Aurore Bessette of Swansea, and Viola Gianetti of Swansea, twelve grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was father of the late Roger Paul Letourneau and brother of the late Ernest, Armand, Tony, and Lionel Letourneau, and Grace Martel.
His Funeral will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 9:00AM from the Rock Funeral Home 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in St. Francis Xavier Parish, 125 Main St. Acushnet. Visiting hours Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00PM. Contributions in his honor may be made to the New England Square Dance Foundation 238 Woburn Street, Reading, Massachusetts 01867-2838. Burial with military honors will be at 12:45PM in the Massachusetts National Cemetery at Bourne.
