Odete (Borges) Arruda, 76, of New Bedford, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Mario J. Arruda with whom she shared 51 years of marriage.
Born in St. Michael, Azores, the daughter of the late Jose and Deolinda (Tavares) Borges, she came to the United States in 1969 and settled in New Bedford.
Mrs. Arruda was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who cherished her family. She was a talented oil painter and enjoyed gardening and reading. She will be missed by all who loved her.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Mario R. Arruda of New Bedford and Luis F. Arruda and his wife Christina of Dartmouth; four grandchildren, Ryan Parker, Connor R. Arruda, Audrey Elizabeth Arruda and Sophia Rose Arruda; three siblings; and several nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 20, 2023 at 10 a.m. in St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford. Burial in Acushnet Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
