Nicolau P. Goncalves

Nicolau P. Goncalves, age 61 of New Bedford, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2018 in St. Luke’s Hospital, after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Maria E. (Sousa Medeiros) Goncalves.

Born in Achadinha, St. Michael, Portugal, a son of the late Manuel Goncalves de Medeiros and Celeste Maria (Pacheco) Goncalves de Medeiros. Nicolau was a longtime resident of New Bedford. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church. He was a laborer for many years.

Nicolau loved his family and was a very humble man. He was a great husband and father, who adored his family, he was hard working person who enjoyed working in his yard and garden. He also enjoyed watching soccer and was an avid fan of the Sporting soccer team.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Helder Medeiros Goncalves of New Bedford; a daughter, Ashley Mary Goncalves of New Bedford; three brothers, Fernando, Edward and Joseph Medeiros Goncalves; two sisters, Marlene Couto and Grace Medeiros both of St. Michael, Portugal and four grandchildren, Levi and Wesley Goncalves and Nevaeh and Noah Velasquez and several nieces and nephews.

His Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 9:00AM in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle Street, New Bedford, MA 02746 followed by burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ashley Blvd., New Bedford.
