Nancy J. (Fonseca) Sylvia, 89, of Acushnet passed away Friday, March 19, 2021 in her home with her family at her side. She was the beloved wife of Edward J. Sylvia with whom she shared 62 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Antone P. and Sizziltina (Martin) Fonseca she was a lifelong area resident. She was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Parish.
Mrs. Sylvia graduated from New Bedford High School in 1950. She worked 12 years at St. Luke’s Hospital as an ambulatory registrar. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Nancy had a vivacious personality and was always known to have a smile on her face.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Scott Sylvia and his wife Barbara of Riverside, RI and Jacqueline O’Neil and her husband Andrew of Rochester; a twin sister, Natalie Simmons and her husband Gilbert of Dartmouth; four grandchildren, Megan Jensen, Lauren Bradford, William O’Neil, and Patrick O’Neil; two great grandchildren, Henry Bradford V and Cameron Bradford. She was the sister of the late Francis O. Fonseca and Bernice Bartholo.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Debbie Perry for the care and companionship she showed her over the last year.
